Holiday Research Sketchbook Pages

My holiday research was based off La Isla de Munecas. This is an island that is near the land of Mexico City, in the canals of Xochimilco. My research is based off the story and my personal interpretation of Don Julian Santana. He is a man who decided to seek refuge in this island and he found a little girl drowned in the water with a doll in hand. He memorialized her by filling the island with all types of dolls found in the island. This story captivated me and inspired many ideas of my own. Throughout my research I explore the history of Mexico City and how the island came to be and I also explore the idea of how our attachments to items. This research was personal to me because I tie it to my personal life and how I feel in my culture it is a popular idea of simply just moving on and never healing.
